MDRT Service Project 2016

In concert with this year's MDRT Annual Meeting in Vancouver, MDRT Foundation Canada members joined with more than 10,000 people from all over the world to converge in Surrey B.C.

With the help of KaBOOM! we built a much needed playground because " All kids deserve a childhood filled with the balanced and active play needed to thrive."

“Because of the large number of affordable multifamily housing units, those who can’t afford to live anywhere else in British Columbia flock to this neighbourhood of Surrey. Over the past few years, there has been an influx of refugee families, immigrant families and aboriginal families looking for an affordable, safe and inclusive place to live. As a result, this neighbourhood has a high diversity population, where language and culture are often barriers to becoming an integrated part of the community. We’ll use this playground as a way to welcome new residents –and new Canadians! – into the neighbourhood!”

Additionally, the site was chosen because of a scarcity of public playgrounds in the area.  In Surrey, playgrounds that are located on school grounds are only open during school hours which leaves youth and families nowhere to gather on evenings and weekends.  Thankfully, the playground that you helped to build will be open to the community with no restrictions.
